Summer Expo 2016 For Online Students

You are invited!

Saturday, June 18th – Sunday, June 26th

The Summer Expo is a weeklong event, which goal to give our online students an Academy of Art University immersive and intensive hands-on experience.

Online students are invited to join us on campus in San Francisco for hands-on workshops, field trips and guest lectures specific to each degree path! Students will meet and work directly with their Department Director, staff and faculty, discuss their progress with their degree program and their futures in their chosen fields.

Planned degree-specific activities:

Styling students will engage in hands-on exercises, sourcing field trips and a live photo shoot with a professional model and photographer. It will be a great opportunity to further your styling skills and get extra highly produced pictures in your portfolio. You will work directly with Flore Morton, Assistant Director of Fashion Styling and Danielle Wallis, Full Time Styling Instructor!

Fashion and Costume Design students will work on a construction project, directed by Rob Curry, Associate Director of 3D Design, Construction, Draping & Flat Pattern; develop their own prints in a Textile Design Workshop with Rhona Mackenzie, Assistant Director of Textiles and Jennifer Jeon, Full Time Textile Design Faculty; collaborate with styling students to produce a live photo-shoot based on the work completed at the expo; participate in guest lectures and industry field trips!

Fashion Journalism students will have a unique opportunity to conceptualize, research, report, and promote an original story under the guidance of Fashion Journalism & Social Media Center Director Stephan Rabimov. Select, qualified stories will appear on Fashion School Daily blog and Academy U Newspaper.

Fashion Merchandising, Visual Merchandising and Product Development students will have the opportunity to visit a variety of industry venues, from wholesale showrooms and designer studios, to various retail stores and specialty boutiques. Merchandising students will work together in the School of Fashion’s own retail boutique, SHOP657, gaining hands-on experience with product merchandising of the sales floor, as well as creating and installing new window displays.

All students will have a chance to participate in a Blogging & Social Media Workshop led by Stephan Rabimov | Blogs form part of the contemporary media and marketing landscape alongside social media tools such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. This two-hour workshop aims to define the term, analyze various elements of successful blogging, and offer initial experience in conceptualizing, producing, and marketing your own blog online as fashion professionals.

Any student who took their classes 100% online in Spring 2016 or Fall 2015 and not enrolled in any on-campus classes in Summer or Fall 2016 can attend.
