Ah, Polaroids. Remember those? A pose, snap and a shake later and you have a portrait right in the palm of your hand. These days, you have to break out fancy gadgets and strings of chords just to frame a photo of you and your dog. That’s all about to change, thanks to this Saturday‘s opening of Photobooth, a photo studio dedicated to Polaroid portraits ($20) and the yester-year effect of live tintype ($40). Not only is the studio a haven for this fun-filled bygone process, it is also a host to rotating art galleries and stands alone as the only West Coast retailer of Polaroid film and other merchandise, featuring brands like Lomography and Fuji. Once inside, the snapshot process involves sitting on a stool for a mere three seconds, while owners and local photogs Vince Donovan and Michael Shindler snap away with cameras dating as far back as World War II and the early1880s. Peek your mug inside for a flash of fun at Photobooth’s opening celebration this Saturday night, with live jams by the Needles and snacks from Lenga Lenga.
