The Textile Arts Council is pleased to welcome former Metropolitan Museum of Art Textile Conservator Tina Kane. Ms. Kane was closely involved for almost thirty years in the conservation of the monumental medieval tapestry “Christ is Born as Man’s Redeemer”. From the ten-piece set known as The Redemption of Man. Formerly owned by the Burgos Cathedral in Spain, this tapestry was in severely distressed condition, having been vandalized and cut into four pieces.
On completion of the Burgos tapestry project, it was the subject of an international symposium at the Met and now hangs in the Cloisters Museum. Tina Kane is now a Textile Conservator in private practice and an adjunct instructor at Vassar College.
