Lauren Haut, B.F.A. Fashion Design, and Darrin George, B.F.A. Textile Design, have collaborated on a women’s wear collection for the upcoming Graduation Fashion Show.
Lauren has interned with N.I.C.E. Collective and Darrin has interned with Nopal Clothing.
Tell us about your inspiration?
Lauren: I conceptualized a world of mid-century women who have experienced a loss of their innocence. The construction is tweaked classic 1950s tailoring.
Darrin: I was inspired by 1950/60s wallpaper. I wanted to create a mix of classic/traditional prints, and organic shapes.
How are you feeling with the show so close?
Lauren: Excited.
Darrin: I am nervous, excited, and anxious!
Are you sleeping much?
Lauren: Not really.
Darrin: Finally! After months of restless nights.
How do you stay focused?
Lauren: I do because I have to. I think of my work as my career.
Darrin: Eye on the prize.. There is only one way to travel in my book…UP.
What has been your favorite part of working on senior collection?
Lauren: Being able to successfully collaborate with a textile designer.
Darrin: The process.
If you could do this year over, what would you change to prepare yourself more?
Lauren: Nothing. I don’t think there is anything that I could change that could prepare me as well as the lessons that I have learned and experiences gained from all the bumps along the road.
Darrin: I do not think you can prepare yourself for the show, it’s this…thing…that spawns into something really beautiful.
What are your plans after graduation?
Lauren: To find an internship in New York or Los Angeles.
Darrin: To continue to create…and to get a job.
