Academy of Art University + San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program

This Holiday Season, the Academy of Art University is partnering with the San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program. The program, which is run by off-duty and retired firefighters and their families, has distributed more than 300,000 toys to over 40,000 children every year in every neighborhood in the City since 1949. This year the school has:

  • Created a new logo and poster, through the School of Graphic Design, which is featured throughout the city on collection barrels and in retail windows
  • Launched our own Academy of Art University community Toy Program Gift Giving Campaign, with collections barrels in over 50 locations on campus (we have a collection barrel at 625 Polk!)
  • Provided photographs of key events by a MFA photo student and provided volunteers to assist in toy distribution

There are many opportunities to help the Toy Program and volunteer your time! Please contact Sally A Casazza at the Firefighters Toy Program reno2150@pacbell.net for more details about how to get involved.

You can also donate a toy at several locations on the campus! Simply bring in a new toy, unwrapped and drop it off – we have barrel in the entry way at 625 Polk.

The Firefighters Toy Program is the San Francisco’s largest, and the nation’s oldest program, of its kind. In addition to helping individual families in need, the Toy Program serves many community organizations, including shelters for abused women and children, inner-city schools, neighborhood groups, children’s cancer wards, and pediatric AIDS units. The program also responds on a year-round basis to displaced children who become victims of fires, floods and other such disasters.
