The Portland Art Museum is hosting the Victoria & Albert Museum’s Italian Style: Fashion Since 1945. The exhibit runs through May 3, so if you’re in the Portland area don’t miss your last chance to see the stunning collection!
This major exhibition will be a glamorous, comprehensive look at Italian Fashion from the end of the Second World War to the present day. The story is explored through the key individuals and organizations that have contributed to Italy’s reputation for quality and style. The exhibition will include both women’s fashion and menswear, highlighting the exceptional techniques, materials, and expertise for which Italy has become renowned.
In addition to touring the exhibition, for Costume Society attendees there will some exclusive additional events: a Portland Style Tour, and a behind-the-scenes look into local Portland fashion designers’ workshops. These tours will be available as optional afternoon programs following the docent-led tour of the Italian Style exhibition.
Another opportunity for Costume Society members and friends for this event will be a tour of The Andrea Aranow Textile Design Collection, developed by Celeb Sayan, this collection comprises over 40,000 textile samples from over 50 countries. The collection was assembled by fashion designer and textile scholar Andrea Aranow over many decades, and now serves as a research archive and digital resource center for fashion and interior designers worldwide.
