The Paris Haute Couture shows are always something to look forward to – fantastic collections that exhibit the true art of fashion. And this season packed an extra punch with Raf Simons’ debut for the house of Christian Dior. The highly anticipated show caused quite the stir, but Dior wasn’t the only house caught our eye.

Iris Van Herpen sent some fantastic creations out, sexy space age if you will (though one look reminded us a bit of Gaultier). Giambattista Valli’s collection was heavy on the ruffle, in the best kind of way (we’re sure the Man Repeller would approve). And Maison Martin Margeila’s collection came as quite a surprise – we never knew they had such an affinity for lace, albeit deconstructed lace.

Throughout the week of shows, there were two things that stood out time after time: 1) Capes – inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow’s turn in Tom Ford for the 2012 Oscars, capes have been everywhere on the runways, haute couture included. And 2) face-obstructing apparatus of all sorts, from visors and masks to beaded veils. We think they might be taking a cue from Ms. Burton and the styling at McQueen.

And while we probably won’t ever be able to afford a true piece of couture – it can’t hurt to look. Follow the jump for our favorites! And tell us your favorite collections in the comments below!
