‘Fashion is a real passion in my family,’ she says. ‘I never even realized it was something glamorous until much later. For me it was my family’s job.’ (Margherita Missoni, Telegraph, 2010)

Margherita Maccapani Missoni, the eldest grandchild of Tia and Rosita Missoni, grew up in a world surrounded by the family fashion business. She moved to New York City at the age of 20, “I was a proper country girl and I just wanted to go to a city where things happened. I needed to be away from this big family to work out who I was.” (Vogue 2013) She spent five years in New York, and during that time she studied philosophy at Columbia University and also attended the Stella Adler acting school and the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. In order to grow in her profession as an actress, she also trained at Black Nexxus with Susan Batson. During that time Margherita appeared in off-Broadway productions, yet always remained a Missoni ambassador. She has acted as the brand ambassador for Missoni for over a decade, attending events, participating in interviews, and often serving as the face of the brand.

In 2006, Margherita worked with the Estée Lauder Companies to launch the “Missoni” scent, which was inspired by three generations of Missoni women—Rosita, Angela and Margherita. Following the successful launch of the first perfume, Margherita again collaborated with Estée Lauder on a second fragrance, Missoni “Acqua.” In Spring 2009, Margherita joined the Missoni design team, and from the Autumn/Winter 2010 show on she has been designing and managing the development of accessories, including shoes, handbags, eyewear and costume jewelry, as well as the Missoni Mare collection.
