This is a shout out to all student illustrators at the Academy of Art University!

The uber hipster publication from across the pond, is partnering with Reiss for their 1971 Reiss collection and they are looking for some brilliant illustrations to grace a t-shirt to match their collection of jeans.

The t-shirt competition wants you to take the idea of “1971” and interpret it in a culturally significant way. Take a mood, an icon or a political message from that year and make an illustration that merges with the Reiss aesthetic.

And now for the good stuff: the top 50 entries will get a pair of 1971 Reiss jeans and the top 10 finalists will get voted on. One men’s and one women’s design will be chosen as the winner and will have their t-shirt designs produced as part of a limited edition collection to be launched during this year’s London Fashion Week, plus winning £500 worth (which is about 800 U.S. dollars) of vouchers to spend at Reiss. The other eight finalists will each receive £100 worth (about 160 U.S. dollars) vouchers. The deadline for entries closes on July, 31 2009 so get to it! Make the Academy proud!
