Summer is in full swing, and there are a ton of great events in SF to keep us busy now that we have a little more time in our hands! As School of Fashion students know, we’re lucky to have The Asian Art Museum as one of our nearby neighbors. Check out their upcoming runway event, Grit &Glamour, and support SF museums, art and fashion!

The Asian Art Museum opens its collaborative exhibition, Gorgeous, with SFMOMA and SFMOMA’s On the Go program with the Grit & Glamour party on Friday, June 20, from 7-11 PM. Bay Area performance collective, International Haus of Nu Benetton, will present a fierce runway performance of vicious voguing throughout the night, culminating in the main “couture” fashion show from 9-10 PM in the grand Samsung Hall. The interactive vogue dance and runway show performed by 10 dancers, voguers and models will excite audiences for an in-your-face experience of ballroom culture.

Partygoers can take their nails to the next level with TopCoat Nail Studio, which will be adorning hands with fresh designs inspired by the Asian Art Museum and SFMOMA artworks in the exhibition.

Boogie to the bottom-shakin’ beats of DJs Dr. Sleep, Robot Hustle (Honey Soundsystem), Natalie Nuxx and davO (Double Duchess). Drinks, food, a photo booth and an electrifying light show complete the night.

The after partySome Thing Gorgeous, will be at the Stud (399 Ninth St.; $10 cover) for drag, art and performance. Doors open at 10 PM, shows at 11 PM and midnight, and dancing till we drop.

About Gorgeous

A selection of 72 stunning artworks drawn from the collections of the Asian Art Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), Gorgeous challenges visitors to confront the extremes and the ambiguities of beauty. On view June 20–Sept. 14, 2014, this special exhibition features an extraordinary mix of objects, spanning more than 2,200 years and dozens of cultures to bring together artworks that, in a variety of ways, extend beyond conventional notions of beauty. Presenting these paintings, sculptures, photographs, design objects and drawings in new and unexpected contexts using an experimental approach, the exhibition aims to stimulate viewers to examine their ideas of what it means for something to be gorgeous. The exhibition is organized by the Asian Art Museum in partnership with SFMOMA as part of SFMOMA’s On the Go program. See exhibition press release here.
