When designing her Fall ’13 collection, Teresa Field was originally inspired by an elk skeleton she found while hiking. She began to research further, finding similarly dark yet beautiful images including graphic illustrations of anatomy and musculature, process sketches from H.R. Giger’s “Alien,” and various other natural elements. She collaborated with Textile Designer James Thai, who created custom leather textiles for the collection, and jewelry designer Leah Aripotch. To create the patterns, James first printed the art onto the leather, and then used a special burning technique to etch the flora and fauna into the leather–it’s absolutely beautiful. Leah was particularly interested in the mixture of structural geometric shapes with more organic elements present throughout the collection, and focused her work on the figure of the snake–a beautifully sinister addition. She cast her pieces in bronze, brass, and copper metals.
