A Peak at Madonna’s MDNA Tour Costumes

Madonna’s MDNA tour might just be one of the most highly anticipated events of the year – at least for all of us here in the School of Fashion – so we were beyond excited when Women’s Wear Daily released sketches of her costumes! She’ll be reprising some of her signature Madonna looks, and wearing lots of lots and lingerie, all designed by Madge herself for the Truth or Dare by Madonna collection. Her long-time collaborator (and School of Fashion friend) Jean Paul Gaultier has designed something special for the tour, what he describes as a combination of:

“a nod to the conical bra corset of the Blond Ambition tour, but reinterpreted in 3-D, in patent leather on the outside with metallic leather on the inside. It’s all about masculine and feminine, Madonna and Jean Paul Gaultier classics reinterpreted for 2012.”

She’ll also be wearing a Joan-of-Arc inspired number made of mesh and Swarovski crystals, a drum majorette outfit, and several looks by Jeremy Scott, all accessorized with shoes by Prada and Miu Miu and pieces from Alexander Wang. Quite the all-star lineup! Madonna’s costume director, Arianne Phillips, has worked with the performer for over 15 years, and promises this tour to be her best yet (at least as far as the costumes are concerned)

This show is epic and bigger than anything she’s done before. There are many more costume changes. We’re taking 700 shoes on the road. Madonna changes outfits seven or eight times and the dancers change 10 to 15 times, depending on the dancer.

The tour kicks off tonight in Tel Aviv, and we can’t wait to see the costumes come to life on stage! Follow the jump for a preview!
