School of Fashion alumna, Sabah Mansoor, pulls together her expertise in textiles, fashion design, production, business, and merchandising to head operations and handle design details for a stylish collection of ‘mementos for home and beyond’. Sabah is working with international artist and poet, Trishla Jain, to transfer and translate elements of Jain’s fine art and poetic verse into home accents and personal accessories. The collection, Thank Joy by Trishla Jain, captures the essence of Jain’s whimsical artistic style with the infusion her personal wit, humor, spirituality, mantras, and encouragement of gratitude and joy.
In addition to bonding over their creative re-visioning of Jain’s fine art, the two share an Indian heritage and seek to honor that in the collection’s signature tapestries. Each Thank Joy tapestry is derived from Jain’s original paintings and is hand-embellished by artisans in India who use centuries-old techniques of beading, stitching, and jewelling. The artisans work simultaneously, two to four at a time, incorporating up to 108 unique materials on each tapestry.
Thank Joy by Trishla Jain will formally launch from the Bay Area in spring 2017 through e-commerce and with select retailers. Sabah is no stranger to FSD! In 2010 she made headlines with her graduate collection debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. Her collection also featured proximately in the windows at Neiman Marcus for “Fashion’s Night Out” in San Francisco. Following, she joined fellow alumna Bethany Meuleners and co-designed a bohemian-luxe knitwear collection, Mansoor Scott. They were selected to participate in Macy’s prestigious “Fashion Incubator” business and design mentorship program, and Mansoor Scott was also designated as one of four emerging brands for Gen-Art’s 15th Annual Fresh Faces in Fashion show during Los Angeles Fashion Week.
