Each year, the de Young New Generations Student and Faculty Advisory Committee invites college and university students to submit proposals of visual art, film, music, or performance art inspired by the special exhibitions at the museum. The top entries are awarded the opportunity to display their works for one day only at the de Young.

Friday, March 15th marks the deadline for all student submissions to participate in this year’s annual showcase. The 2013 competition asks students to find inspiration in the powerful images, serene beauty, and mysterious significance of works in the diverse exhibitions of the de Young to express their vision of “everyday” life. What do you see in your world? What lies beneath its surface?

Current exhibitions include:

Girl with a Pearl Earring: Dutch Paintings from the Mauritshuis
Rembrandt’s Century
Eye Level in Iraq: Photographs by Kael Alford and Thorne Anderson
Objects of Belief from the Vatican: Art of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas

Members of the de Young Museum’s New Generations Student and Faculty Advisory Committee will jury the proposals. There will be three cash awards for the top entries, in addition to the 2-D and 3-D works being displayed all day, April 19, at the de Young.

All submissions must be received by midnight on Friday, March 15, 2013. All submissions received on March 16 or later will not be considered.
