Youngjin Shin grew up in Seoul, South Korea and graduated from Ogum High School. He is currently pursuing his B.F.A in Fashion Design from the Academy of Art University. Youngjin’s graduation collection was inspired by both the abstract artist, Jackson Pollock, and The Great Depression. Specifically, Jackson Pollock’s style of dress, and the 1940’s decade, was what most influenced Youngjin. The designer collaborated with Textile Design student Hsin Lee.
Hsin Lee was born in Taipei, Taiwan and graduated from the Wesley Girls High School. She is currently earning her B.F.A in Textile Design from the Academy of Art University. Working with Fashion Design student Youngjin Shin, Hsin Lee was inspired by photographs of Dorothea Lange: the American documentary photographer whose work was most celebrated for capturing The Great Depression. Hsin used the textures of the broken leggings, knitting patterns, and peeling walls featured in Lange’s images to create the textile patterns used in the collection.
