I was born in Iraq and came to the US as a refugee. When I was a child, I had a problem speaking. I started to express my ideas through drawings and visual aids. It helped me a lot to be able to express my emotions and my feelings until now.
My collection is partly inspired by the epic of Gilgamesh, a story I was told in my childhood. As a result of the war in Iraq, I had to leave the country and come to the US as a refugee. I still remember the pain in my shoulder carrying my very heavy backpack, the only item I was able to bring to the US. So, throughout my collection, I tried to mix these concepts together. The exaggerated silhouettes on the upper part of the design, especially on the shoulders, represent my feeling of pain carrying my heavy backpack. The horns are taken from the epic of Gilgamesh. The printed fabric is inspired by the dusty storms of Iraq.
