After I moved from China to San Francisco,
I found an old quilt with unique Chinese prints. This quilt was the foundation behind my “Back To My Childhood” spring/summer thesis collection. I explore the furniture structure, garment materials, and tones of vintage photographs in this collection to develop my designs.
For the prints, I was inspired by retro floral patterns often found on vintage bed sheets and created a design with contrasting colors and proportions. I use digital printing to simulate the texture of stitching on quilts. I began my process by manipulating the fabric in parts on the form, then collaged pieces together to create the finished design.
