As we welcome the New Year with due excitement and faith in its potential, Fashion School Daily looks back at the most popular posts of 2016. It was a great year of creative challenges, talented insights and institutional firsts. Rewind the year with these best-of highlights from our digital archives!
- Academy Showcases at New York Fashion Week
Our 20th anniversary season at New York Fashion Week drew the most audience for the Spring 2017 collections by thirteen fashion program graduates. The extensive coverage included formal media releases, designer look-books and runway imagery and a requisite front row reportage. We loved seeing all the attention that this milestone has received. Here’s looking forward to next season!

- Twelve Hours in NYC with Designer Brandon Kee
We followed one of the NYFW showcase participants on the day of the event. “I couldn’t imagine being here a few months ago. I try hard not to have big expectations, but it’s way bigger than I imagined,” Kee shared his initial impressions. This rare backstage glimpse into the creative chaos surrounding a major fashion show became one of the biggest FSD stories of the year.
- Charity X Fashion: Love Without Words
Our readers love fashion, but especially fashion at the service of a good cause. This story about a first-of-its-kind event at the San Francisco Institute of Possibility featuring Madeline (“Maddy”) Stuart, the first supermodel with Down Syndrome, was a strong favorite. It brought awareness, in style, to children with disabilities, who often struggle with speech and language barriers.
- Student Spotlight: Dairia Kymber Harvin
Student Spotlight is by far our favorite segment since we get to share our amazing talent pool with the world. Dairia Kymber Harvin (MA Fashion Journalism) reflected on her coveted internship with Visionaire, a luxury multi-platform hybrid between art and fashion. We couldn’t be more fascinated and proud. Congratulations, Dairia. Our readers are just so into you!
- Five Designers from the School of Fashion Selected as CFDA+ 2016 Graduates
We welcomed more good news (and 1000s of proud clicks) on behalf of students Elizabeth Siedow, Ghazaleh Khalifeh, Namrata Bhandari, Jadi Haynes and Amy Yip who landed on a prestigious CFDA honor roll as “young designers with exceptional vision, unique talents and diverse professional potential.” It’s an honor to be nominated. So goes the saying. It feels great to win!

- Holiday Chic On A Student Budget
Academy’s illustrious alumni got some digital loving from our readers, too. This profile of alumnus Josh Burden, visual merchandiser for H&M, attracted quite a few eyes looking for advice on how to shine at a party without breaking the bank and the importance of being true to your sense of style. Thanks, Josh!
Happy New Year from the Fashion School Daily team!
