Savoring the last few days of the Holiday Season, or realizing you forgot to buy that one friend a gift? Visit the Westfield SF’s Winter Nights Holiday Bazaar, located on level 4 under the decked out holiday dome. The Bazaar will run until January 7th with handmade gifts, accessories, and crafts from local artisans, holiday-themed food, and favorite holiday entertainment such as Santa Claus and the Sugar Plum Fairy. Hurry before they head back home and we won’t see them until the 2017 Holiday Season.

Naomi Alessandra’s fashion illustrations serve as the basis for her work on paper displayed in the new solo exhibition at diPietro Todd Union Square. Alessandra places the characters in current social environments while adding subtle motifs and commentary utilizing hair color, skin color, gender, and tattoos. Through multiple layers and watercolor media, the characters are entangled between the fluid realms of reality and mysticism pushing the audience to wrestle with intangibility yet important meaning.

Books & Mud: the drowned libraries of Florence

In 1966, the Arno River in Florence, Italy flooded the town ruining many libraries and museums. Through the massive efforts of international volunteers, important books and documents were recovered and restored. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Arno flood, the American Bookbinders Museum celebrates these international volunteers, deemed “Book Angels,” and their efforts and techniques used in restoring the books.

San Francisco Tape Music Festival 2017

Be captivated as audio is brought to life in America’s only festival “devoted to the performance of audio works projected in three-dimensional space.” Surrounded by 24 high-end loudspeakers, the audience sits in complete darkness as world-class composers paint vivid pictures with musical notes. Hear performances by “Denmark’s Grandmother of Electronic Music,” Else Marie Pade, Bay Area Composer Warner Jepson, and international composers from Italy to Ireland. Bowie & Elvis Birthday Bash 2017

Aarde | Claudy Jongstra

Spend the day marveling at the exhibitions in the SFMoMA, but be sure to see Aarde by Dutch designer Claudy Jongstra. Using wool from sheep she raised in the Netherlands, Jongstra has created a time lapsed landscape of the architectural history of the SFMoMA from beginning designer Mario Botta to recent designer of new renovations, Snøhetta. Staying true to the San Francisco journey, Jongstra has used Bay Area minerals to hand-dye the wool to help add color to the landscape.
