Change is good: As Academy of Art University School of Fashion students prepare for their annual Graduation Fashion Show, the school’s Associate Director of 3D Design Robert Curry explains why the fashion design process, including tweaking muslins and repeated alterations, is almost more important than the final product. Students drape on dress forms and share collection sketches in a studio that is built as if it’s each student’s atelier. BFA Fashion Design student Laura Hidaka explains how the final design changes a lot throughout the process — “it becomes like a whole new piece,” she says.
