2013 Graduation Fashion Show Designer: Shumpei Okamoto & Andrea Nieto

Shumpei Okamoto was born in Toyota City, Japan and is pursuing his B.F.A. in Fashion Design from the Academy of Art University. Drawing on his additional design experience as a fitting assistant for Nice Collective in San Francisco, Shumpei’s neoprene collection is inspired by the concept of “Neo-Fast Fashion”. Having less people and time involved in the production of Shumpei’s work, resulted in making a ready-to-wear collection at a rate faster than fast-fashion production. Shumpei reduced the amont of time spent during the construction process by coming up with a way to make clothes using an all-in-one-piece pattern. With only one pattern used to make any kind of garments, his construction process became ten times faster.

Andrea Nieto grew up in Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia and graduated from Deutsche Schule Cali. She is currently earning her B.F.A. in Textile Design from the Academy of Art University. Honored by the YMA Scholarship Fund earlier this year, Andrea was awarded the runner-up Geoffrey Beene scholarship for her outstanding work in Textile Design. Her skill sets helped create the primitive shapes paired with modern prints that made up the futuristic feel of the collection she collaborated on with Fashion Design student Shumpei Okamoto.
