2013 Graduation Fashion Show Designers: Feijing Song & Erica Kim

Feijing Song grew up in Beijing, China, and is working towards her B.F.A. in Fashion Design from the Academy of Art University. Her collection was inspired by performance artist, Nick Cave’s, Soundsuits. Feijing translated the ideas into colorful fabric and embroidered the pieces with plastic and beads. Feijing collaborated with B.F.A. Knitwear student Erica Kim. Together they used wool, lycra wool blend, wool gabardine, rayon and viscose to create their collection.

Erica Kim was born in Seoul, Korea and attended the Bundang Youngduk Girls High School. She is currently pursuing her B.F.A. in Knitwear, and collaborated with B.F.A. Fashion Design student, Feijing Song, on her graduation collection. The collection was inspired by  by performance artist, Nick Cave’s Soundsuits: wearable fabric sculptures that are bright, whimsical, and other-worldly.

If you could come back as [a fashion icon], who would it be?

Tina Chow. I just admired her guts and her lifestyle could be seen as defying stereotype. Her design aesthetic was deeply personal, blending her Japanese heritage and personal experiences of pop culture with Western influences.

What [item of clothing] is the greatest love of your life?

A hand-knit scarf from my husband. He learned how to do it especially for me.

What is your greatest [style] regret?

I have no regrets.

Who are your favorite [fashion] heroes in real life?

Huo Huo Han. For the people who do not know, just Google!

Erica…

What is your current state of mind?

I want to sleep and wake up whenever I want.

Which [items in your closet] do you most use?

Black jeans.

What is your [style] motto?

A classic never goes out of style.
