2013 Graduation Fashion Show Designer: Eulalia (Lisa) Hegner

Eulalia (Lisa) Hegner grew up in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, B.W.I., and graduated from the British West Indies Collegiate. She is currently earning her B.F.A. in Fashion Design from the Academy of Art University. Following H.R.H. Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud‘s visit to the School of Fashion last May, Lisa was selected as one of six students to travel to Saudi Arabia and design a collection to be displayed at the Harvey Nichols Department Store in Riyadh. Lisa was inspired by the construction and development going on in the country, as well as the natural surroundings that made her feel as if she was on another planet, such as Mars in the video game Red Fraction or the fictional planet of Tatooine from the Star Wars series. While she was designing, Lisa wanted to preserve the traditional and cultural aspects of the region while combining them with a futuristic and surreal outlook.

What [item of clothing] is the greatest love of your life?

Classic white button down shirt.

What is your [style] motto?

“The only real elegance is in the mind; if you’ve got that, the rest really comes from it.” Diana Vreeland

What is your most treasured possession?

A photograph of my Dad and I taken when I was 6 years old.

Who are your favorite [fashion] heroes in real life?

I would honestly have to say my mother. There is just something about her that, no matter what she is doing or what she is wearing, there is always an air of elegance that surrounds her. She is one of those people that was, truly, born with elegance. I would also have to say Haider Ackermann and Ricardo Tisci. I find their work to be complex, interesting, beautiful and simple all at the same time.
