Ran Bi grew up in Nan tong, Jiang su, China and is pursuing his B.F.A. in Menswear Design from the Academy of Art University. A recipient of the 2011 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Scholarship Award, Ran used materials including wood, clear vinyl, leather and mohair to create his graduation collection. Inspired by the elegance of a dapper man from 1915, Ran’s collection showcases an utterly tailored, modern, sporty vision. Ran collaborated with B.F.A. Sculpture student, Alexander Toy.
Alexander Toy was born and raised in San Francisco, CA and is earning his B.F.A. in Jewelry & Metals Arts from the Academy of Art University. Selected as the “Best in Show” for the 2012 Academy of Art University Spring Show, Alexander collaborated with B.F.A. Menswear Design student Ran Bi on his collection for this year’s graduation show. Using walnut wood and apple plywood to design his series of men’s accessories based on common office supplies, Alexander created each piece as a functional accessory for the working man.
