For the second year in a row, the Academy of Art University School of Fashion Graduation Fashion Show was named in BizBash’s Top 100 List of Events in San Francisco, notably nabbing the #1 spot as the best San Francisco Fashion Industry Event for 2015. BizBash’s Top 100 list includes everything from meetings to parties to any industry gatherings that make the most impact for that year. The list, which includes SF staple events such as Bay to Breakers, the Chinese New Year Festival and our Graduation Fashion Show, includes events from 10 categories such as Sport Events, Benefits, Parades and Film & Media Events.
The School of Fashion Graduation Fashion Show takes place annually each spring and always delivers a high quality show with many industry icons in attendance, such as; Vogue International Editor Suzy Menkes, alumna and 2014’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund runner up Ryan Roche, and design houses Missoni, BCBG and Yigal Azrouël, to name a few. Each year the School of Fashion hosts guests of honor to attend the show and take on interns. In the past we have been joined by members of The CFDA, Alexander McQueen, Dame Vivienne Westwood DBE, Jean Paul Gaultier, and many other notable designers . The Graduation Fashion Show gives seniors the opportunity to present their many years of hard work to industry professionals and the fashion world.
For the 2015 runway show, which took place on May 14, 39 student designers from fields including Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, Textile Design, Technical Design and Jewelry and Metal Arts, presented their final collections. During a portfolio review held before the fashion show, all graduating students had the opportunity to showcase their portfolios to guests of honor and industry professionals and engage in face-to-face conversations about future employment or other fashion related topics.
Each year more than 2,000 industry professionals attend the School of Fashion’s Graduation Show. Industry recruiters and representatives from Abercrombie & Fitch, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Levi’s, Old Navy, Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Li & Fung, Ryan Roche and The North Face appeared at the Graduation Show. The Graduation Fashion Show has also received press from Style.com, Women’s Wear Daily, California Apparel News, The Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Magazine, C Social Front, Refinery29, Legally Vogue, My Informs, Refinery29, Racked, 7×7 and many more.
All of the BizBash Top 100 events succeed by drawing large crowds and grabbing the attention of media and industry professionals in their fields, and the School of Fashion Graduation Fashion Show is no exception. In a town more notorious as a tech haven we are honored to host one of the events that puts fashion on the map in San Francisco.
