Second issue of one eighty magazine launches

one eighty magazine is written and produced by students in the Fashion Journalism program at Academy of Art University. The first issue had its debut at the Spring 2009 Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week to great success. The second issue launched at the April 23rd San Francisco Graduation Fashion Show. Working on the magazine gives students a chance to apply their skills in a real-world context and work closely with the industry they are preparing to enter. Named after the physical address of the School of Fashion, 180 New Montgomery, one eighty the magazine covers fashion, art and culture in the spirit of fun, experimentalism and collaboration. In the spring/summer issue, one eighty explores color and the many ways in which it inspires us. Inside you’ll find stories such as “Neutral Territory” an editorial set among architecture models, wherein toiles are showcased before being made into finished garments. “In Colored Landscapes” is a panoramic exhibit of sundresses from online graduate, Elena Akoulova. Taken with cross-processed film, the shoot reminds us of the beauty of technologies past and present. “Where the Wild Things Were Not” is an illustrated fashion shoot based on Maurice Sendak’s children’s book and Spike Jonze’s highly anticipated film, which cinches for us the close connection fashion shares with fantasy and popular culture.
